Book Review: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I don’t even know where to begin with this book. If you don’t know Marissa Meyer, you’re missing out. She’s written the incredible Lunar Chronicles series where she has taken classic fairy tales and turned them into science fiction, dystopian adventures. This book does not disappoint.

Just imagine the Queen of Hearts before the Alice in Wonderland stories when all she wanted to do was own a little bakery with her best friend. All it takes is one ball at the castle and a new court jester to make all the dreams fall apart.

It is a fantastic story of love and deception and will make you look at the classic story in a whole new way. I would recommend this book for middle school and up, kids and adults alike could definitely get a good read out of this one.

It’s not very often that you get a romantic story with a badass female character that breaks a lot of stereotypes. Catherine is a wonderful young woman with dreams like everyone else. There’s something about her that just draws your attention. Meyer makes it very clear that Catherine’s character doesn’t fit the unrealistic beauty standards of the world today. She also is outspoken and passionate, qualities that are often overlooked in romantic novels.

This book comes out in November and would be a great gift for the coming holidays; young or old, everyone would love this fantastic story.

I read this book as an Advanced Reader Copy which is the pre-publication edition of a book sent out by publishers for review and publicity. The reviews I leave here are my honest opinions of the books I’ve been reading and have really enjoyed. I’m not payed to say any of this, I just liked the books! If you liked the review, let me know! If you have any particular requests for genres, authors, or titles, I’d be happy to oblige. Keep your eyes open for more reviews like this coming soon, there are some great books coming out in the next few months!
