2016 is almost over and man, it has been a crazy year. I can’t say it’s been a great year, but hey, it’s been a year. One of the best things about this year has been the beauty trends. I am a huge fan of the classic, versatile looks that have been hugely popular. I have definitely gone a bit overboard when it comes to beauty purchases this year, not gonna lie, but today I’ve got my top purchases of this year!
Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: The biggest, and best makeup investment of 2016 for me. I chose the Naked 3 palette because, as I am unbelievably pale, the rose tones of these eyeshadows are gorgeous. I’ve found so many looks for everyday and parties. The darker colors are lovely for all over the lid, blending through the crease, or even using on an angled brush for eye liner. The lighter colors are gorgeous for highlight under the brow bone or in the inner corner. If you’re looking for a palette to get you through college (when you will inevitably be broke and can’t afford to replace eye shadows), then picking one of the Naked palettes that suits your skin tone the best is the way to go.
Fresh Sugar Nude Tinted Lip Treatment: I first tried one of these last year at Christmas when I got a mini sampler of lip products from Sephora. I absolutely loved the color I got and wore it obsessively until it melted in my bag on Spring Day at school. That was a mess. So I went back to Sephora and picked out the color Nude. It is so moisturizing and a lovely color for a simple look. I’ve loved the SPF for the summer, and I can’t wait to see how it does in the cold of winter.
Body Shop All-In-One Face Base: This is probably my third or fourth one of these, it’s my go-to product, my favorite powder, and the product that has completely transformed my makeup. I use it daily. You can use this over foundation as a setting powder with a tiny bit of coverage, a powder foundation over concealer, or just a powder to tone down shine on its own. I can’t say enough good things about this, just try it, seriously, you will not regret it.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: As someone with really horrible skin, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect concealer. This is honestly the greatest concealer of all time. It is thick, easily blended, and has such incredible coverage. More often than not I will just wear this on it’s own with the All-In-One Face Base. If you are looking for a new concealer, or haven’t found the right one yet, try this concealer. I’m on my second tube, with the third one waiting for when this one runs out.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner: I’ve never been very good at doing eyeliner, it always kinda looks like a slug crawled up and died on my eyelid (lovely image). I had a gift card to Sephora on my birthday and so decided to get this gel liner and an angled brush and give it a shot. I am so glad I did. It is so pigmented, long-lasting, and easy to apply. It’s definitely worth the price and will last you such a long time.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion: Everyone raves about this, so I won’t go on about this, but it really is worth the hype. It feels nice on your eyelids, really holds your shadows for a full day, and makes it so much easier to blend everything. There are plenty of people with great reviews of this, check them out, it’s definitely worth the hype!
Nars Deep Throat Blush: Oh my god I freaking love this blush. It’s an amazing, deep coral color that suits every skin tone. It looks great with all eye and lip looks, all skin tones, and works for all occasions. If you’re not a fan of this color, Nars has a ton of different colors that everyone will fall in love with. This was a spur of the moment purchase, but I’ve worn it nearly every day. Definitely worth the price!
Kevyn Aucoin Brow Gel Pencil: There are so many brow products out there right now, it’s hard to find one that is actually good. I’ve been reaching for this one nearly every day. It’s super easy to use, with a little brush on one end and the gel pencil on the other. It doesn’t run in the heat, and doesn’t cake in the cold. It fills my brows nicely and is so quick and easy to use for loos when you don’t have time to work with a shadow on an angled brush. You’ll definitely need to test this in person to get the color right, but it’s so good!
Urban Outfitters Nail Polish in Stunner: I’m a huge fan of Urban Outfitters nail polishes, they’re a really nice consistency and only need one or two coats. This is the color I’ve been wearing for most of the summer and winter. It’s a beautiful pinky-red metallic color. Obviously there are tons of others that you can look through to find the one that suits you best, but honestly, this polish looks even better on your nails than in the bottle.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara: As someone who hates the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, I was a bit skeptical of this mascara. I’m really not a fan of clumpy mascara and mascara that is way to hard to take off. This one is neither of those things! It adds length and color, and doesn’t run down your face if you’re sweating, but comes off super easily. It’s a great mascara, really. A daily essential in my makeup bag and something I will definitely be purchasing again.
So there you go, my best beauty purchases of 2016! I hope your new year is amazing, and I’ll be back soon with another post!
